How to Tie Titanium Leader Wire Knots
There are a few options available when it comes to attaching nickel-titanium leader wire to monofilament. Many use the time-tested option of crimping; however, another easy and super-quick method is to tie the leader wire directly to the mono or other line material. This does not require the use of crimpers and it is extremely efficient in the middle of a fishing day!
Here are two knots that work very well for tying titanium leader wire.
The Albright Knot
The Albright Knot is a moderately easy-to-tie knot, suitable for joining different types of fishing line. It is best for joining lines that are made of different materials or of different diameters. It should slide easily between the guides if tied and clipped properly.
Step 1.
Create a loop with the heavier line (titanium wire) and run the monofilament through the loop.
Step 2.
Wrap the mono line over itself and both strands of the loop wire.
Step 3.
While holding the titanium securely, make 10 very tight wrapped turns, then feed the mono back through the loop on the side it was fed through. Hold both ends of the titanium and slide the wraps to the loop end.
Step 4.
Pull the mono line in order to tighten and then clip the tag ends
The Clinch Knot
A clinch knot is a simple, yet effective knot to use for attaching titanium leader wire to a hook, swivel or lure. Thread several inches of the titanium leader wire through the eye of the hook. Make 4 turns around the mainline then double back and bring the end of the mainline through the loop formed at the top of the hook eye. Using plyers, pull the tag end and mainline to cinch. Clip the tag ends.
